Overview
Metal Technician Level 1 (MT1) is an entry level apprentice position. An MT1 is responsible for completing the majority of vehicle body repairs as listed on the RO under the supervision of a Master Metal Technician. All repairs are to be completed to the point of “ready for paint” prior to delivering the vehicle to the paint department. An MT1 is responsible for applying undercoating, gravel guard, seam sealer, and lubricants as needed or as listed on the RO. After painting, an MT1 is responsible for reassembly and final body alignments and adjustments prior to the vehicle being delivered. An MT1 must provide his/her own hand tools including air sanders, air wrenches, miscellaneous air tools, and a mobile tool cabinet.
Key Responsibilities
1. Tear down vehicles
2. Refit new parts such as bumpers, fenders, grills, moldings, and other bolt-on items
3. Assist with small to medium repair, finishing and priming jobs
4. Complete all repairs in a manner in which the repaired areas are restored to the original manufacturer’s specifications, including door, hood and deck alignments, chassis and frame measurements, and welded on unibody parts
5. Work independently as well as under the supervision of the assigned Master Metal Technician
Basic Requirements
Previous autobody experience is not mandatory but is preferred. Some type of automotive experience is necessary. The ability to read and follow instructions precisely and to work independently as well as with others in an organized manner is essential.
